“I want every piece of artwork I create to serve as an open template for the eye of the beholder, reviving their fondest memories of Maine”

Originally from the Eastern Shore of Delaware, Kate Arthur has been captivated by life along the coast since childhood. Her formative years were divided between her hometown and weekends spent camping on Chincoteague Island, Virginia — a rhythm of salt air, tides, and island simplicity that left an indelible mark on her heart.

At twenty-four, Kate carried that love of the sea northward, settling on the remote island of North Haven, Maine. Twelve miles out into the Penobscot Bay, North Haven quickly became both home and muse. The island’s unabridged beauty and the creativity that runs through its community inspired Kate to dive deeper into her artistic nature and refine her craft.

Her first sculpture was born in a high school art class: a clay bowl shaped to resemble a puffer fish. The techniques she learned then remain in her hands today, and continue to be applied to create coastal inspired sculptures. Through her work, Kate seeks not only to celebrate the coastal culture she loves, but to create a space where others may rediscover their own cherished memories of summer, salt, and sea.
